- Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 30 minutes
- Servings: Makes about 12 fritters
INGREDIENTS
- 4 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
- Oil for frying
INSTRUCTIONS
- Prepare Cabbage Mixture:
- In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, chopped onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
- Add Flour and Cornstarch:
- Add the chickpea flour and cornstarch to the cabbage mixture. Mix well until everything is evenly coated. The mixture should be sticky enough to form into fritters. If it’s too dry, you can add a little water, a tablespoon at a time.
- Shape into Fritters:
- Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a round patty or fritter. Repeat with the remaining mixture to make about 12 fritters.
- Pan-Fry the Fritters:
- Heat oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, place the fritters in the pan, leaving some space between each one. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Serve:
- Once cooked, transfer the fritters to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Serve Warm:
- Serve the Vegan Cabbage Fritters warm as a delicious appetizer or side dish. They are great on their own or paired with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as a tangy yogurt sauce or a spicy chili sauce.
